Abdominal ultrasound

Examining abdominal organs using ultrasound.

What to expect

Ultrasound allows us to examine abdominal organs. We clarify which organs and questions are the focus and whether preparation is needed before your appointment.

A view of abdominal organs

Ultrasound can show structures such as the liver, gallbladder and kidneys, as well as other abdominal structures. Depending on symptoms or findings, it can support diagnosis and follow-up. It uses sound waves and no X-rays.

Procedure and preparation

You lie on an examination couch. After applying gel, a probe is moved over the abdomen. Air in the bowel can make images less clear, so we discuss beforehand whether you need to fast. Ultrasound cannot show every abnormality. Further investigations may supplement the assessment if needed.

Before your appointment

Please bring existing medical reports and an up-to-date medication list. We discuss any special preparation, the exact scope and possible costs when arranging your appointment.
