Resting ECG

Recording the heart's electrical activity at rest.

What to expect

A resting ECG records the heart's electrical activity while you rest. We discuss the examination and findings in the context of your symptoms and medical history.

A brief recording of heart activity

An electrocardiogram displays the heart's electrical signals as a trace. A resting ECG can help assess heart rhythm, for example. We decide medically whether it is useful for your symptoms or follow-up care.

What to expect

Electrodes are attached to your skin while you lie still. Recording usually takes only a few minutes and is painless. As it covers a short period, intermittent symptoms may require further investigations, such as a long-term ECG.

Before your appointment

Please bring existing medical reports and an up-to-date medication list. We discuss any special preparation, the exact scope and possible costs when arranging your appointment.
