Reviewing immunity against three contagious viral illnesses.
Measles, mumps and rubella can have serious consequences. Rubella is particularly concerning during pregnancy. The combined MMR vaccine protects against these illnesses. Missing or uncertain records should be reviewed early.
Routine vaccination is intended for children; adults may need catch-up doses. Year of birth, previous doses, occupation and particular contacts affect recommendations. Planning a pregnancy is an important reason to assess protection beforehand.
MMR is a live vaccine. It cannot be given during pregnancy and may be contraindicated or require particular assessment in certain forms of immunosuppression. We discuss contraindications and necessary intervals. Existing vaccination records are especially helpful.
Before vaccination, we discuss underlying conditions, medicines, allergies and previous vaccine reactions. You receive information on benefits and possible side effects. A short observation period follows. Pain or redness at the injection site and temporary general symptoms may occur; more severe or lasting symptoms should receive medical assessment.
Medically recommended vaccinations may be covered by statutory insurance under the applicable vaccination directive. The specific indication and your insurance cover determine eligibility. Occupational vaccination may be the responsibility of occupational health services. We discuss scope and any charges in advance.
Bring your vaccination record and an up-to-date medication list. Mention planned travel, pregnancy or immunosuppressive treatment. The vaccination series and boosters depend on the vaccine and current recommendations.
