What to expect

We measure your breathing using a lung function testing device. You receive clear instructions for the breathing manoeuvres, and the measurements are assessed alongside your symptoms.

Measuring breathing

Lung function testing can provide important information about breathlessness, persistent cough or known respiratory conditions. Spirometry measures how much air you can breathe out and how quickly. Results complement the consultation and physical examination.

Your participation matters

You breathe through a mouthpiece following instructions. Some manoeuvres are repeated to make the measurements reliable. Results can help diagnose and monitor conditions such as asthma or COPD. Please discuss whether you need to adjust the timing of inhaled medication before the appointment.
