COVID-19 antibody test

Measuring antibodies does not reliably establish immunity.

What an antibody test shows

An antibody test can indicate whether an immune response to SARS-CoV-2 has occurred. Results vary according to the test and previous vaccination or infection. It answers different questions from a PCR test for current infection.

Limits of interpretation

An antibody level cannot reliably establish your personal protection against another infection. A negative result also does not definitively exclude previous infection. Routine antibody measurement is generally unnecessary when deciding about recommended vaccination.

Before blood sampling

We first clarify your question and assess whether the test offers medical value. If you currently have symptoms, we discuss suitable investigations. An antibody test should not replace necessary precautions or medical examination when you are ill.

Planning the next steps together

We explain findings clearly and discuss measures suited to your circumstances. If further tests or specialist input are needed, we help plan them. Please bring existing reports and an up-to-date list of medication and supplements.

Your appointment at the practice
