Exercise ECG

Examining the heart's activity during physical exertion.

What to expect

An exercise ECG records the heart's electrical activity during controlled exertion. We discuss the reason for the examination, its procedure and your individual suitability beforehand, then explain the findings afterwards.

Why examine the heart during exercise?

A resting ECG records heart activity briefly without physical exertion. Some symptoms or changes only appear during exercise. An exercise ECG can help assess how heart rhythm, pulse and blood pressure respond to physical work.

Procedure and interpretation

Adhesive electrodes record heart activity while exertion is increased in a controlled way, often on an exercise bicycle. We also monitor symptoms and recovery. Abnormal findings may require further investigations. A normal result does not rule out every heart condition. Wear comfortable clothing and discuss medication with us beforehand.

Before your appointment

Please bring existing medical reports and an up-to-date medication list. We discuss any special preparation, the exact scope and possible costs when arranging your appointment.
