Sexually transmitted infection assessment

Individual advice and suitable tests, including HIV and hepatitis B/C.

Discussing risks confidentially

Sexually transmitted infections may cause symptoms or initially go unnoticed. Itching, discharge, pain when urinating or skin changes should be assessed. Advice may also help after a possible exposure. Consultations are confidential and non-judgemental.

Selecting appropriate tests

Tests depend on the contact, timing, symptoms and body sites involved. Options include blood tests, urine samples or swabs. An early test may need repeating because pathogens or antibodies are not yet detectable.

Treatment and prevention

If an infection is found, we discuss treatment and specialist support where needed. Informing and testing sexual partners may also be important. Depending on circumstances, we advise about condoms, vaccinations and HIV prevention. After possible high-risk HIV exposure, every hour matters: seek immediate advice about PEP.

Planning the next steps together

We explain findings clearly and discuss measures suited to your circumstances. If further tests or specialist input are needed, we help plan them. Please bring existing reports and an up-to-date list of medication and supplements.

Your appointment at the practice
