PrEP consultation

Advice about HIV prevention, eligibility and necessary monitoring.

Prevention for increased HIV risk

HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, involves HIV-negative people taking medication to protect against HIV infection under certain conditions. PrEP does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections and does not replace individual advice.

Checks before starting

Before prescribing, HIV infection must be excluded and relevant health measurements checked. Kidney function, hepatitis status and possible interactions may also matter. The regimen and follow-up appointments are agreed individually; taking it independently without assessment is unsuitable.

Regular support

Repeated HIV tests and other monitoring are required during PrEP. We discuss personal risk and clarify which care is provided at the practice or through a qualified specialist HIV service. Statutory insurance coverage depends on eligibility and appropriately qualified care.

Planning the next steps together

We explain findings clearly and discuss measures suited to your circumstances. If further tests or specialist input are needed, we help plan them. Please bring existing reports and an up-to-date list of medication and supplements.

Your appointment at the practice

Please bring existing medical reports and an up-to-date medication list. We discuss any special preparation, the exact scope and possible costs when arranging your appointment.
