Infusions

Infusion therapy following medical assessment.

Discussing the indication, suitable contents, procedure and possible costs of an infusion individually.

Injection or infusion – what is the difference?

An injection delivers a small amount of a product using a syringe. The Medivitan treatment offered here is intramuscular, meaning into a muscle. An infusion delivers a solution through a vein over a longer period. The appropriate route depends on the product and treatment goal.

Individual selection and procedure

Before treatment, we review symptoms, medical conditions, medicines and existing findings. We decide which additional blood tests are needed. Depending on the product and treatment, a session in our practice usually lasts about 20 to 60 minutes. Products are not mixed into a single cocktail; they are administered separately as infusions and/or injections according to an individual plan. Not every listed nutrient is given intravenously.

Injections

Medivitan – vitamin B injections

Indication

Combined deficiency of vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and folic acid that cannot be corrected through diet. Treatment follows individual medical assessment.

Composition

Vitamin B6 + vitamin B12 + folic acid

Post-COVID and long COVID: assessing symptoms

For persistent tiredness or exhaustion after a COVID-19 infection, we investigate possible causes and any accompanying vitamin deficiency. If the relevant combined deficiency is present, treatment with Medivitan can be discussed. Post-COVID or long COVID alone are not authorised indications for Medivitan; proven effectiveness against these conditions has not been established.

Our infusion options

Our selection considers the available scientific evidence, product instructions, your symptoms and findings. Treatment plans are tailored to your individual circumstances. The listed reasons for consultation are not universal indications for every combination: proven benefit is not established for all listed uses. Composition, dose and route are determined medically; products are administered separately.

Side effects and medical supervision

Possible symptoms include reactions at the injection site, nausea, headache or circulatory problems. Hypersensitivity reactions can also occur and may be serious. The type and frequency of risks depend on the product and your health. Please tell us immediately if you feel unwell during treatment. Applications are medically supervised; the contraindications and special precautions on this page still apply.

Costs and reimbursement

The options described are offered by our practice as self-pay services. Medical fees under the German medical fee schedule (GOÄ), any required laboratory tests, medicines and materials are itemised transparently. According to our brochure, product purchase costs are passed on without a markup. We explain your individual costs before treatment. Insurance reimbursement is not guaranteed; please check with your insurer beforehand.

When may an infusion be appropriate?

A confirmed vitamin deficiency or impaired absorption in the digestive tract may warrant treatment. We assess your medical history, symptoms and, where appropriate, blood tests to determine whether an infusion is needed or whether dietary changes or tablets are sufficient. The product and route of administration are selected individually.

Fatigue, infections and recovery

Tiredness, exhaustion or burnout, frequent infections, recovery after surgery or illness, and strenuous exercise may prompt a medical consultation. With chronic inflammation or ongoing stress, we first investigate the cause and any possible deficiency. These situations alone do not establish a need for a vitamin infusion or a promise of faster recovery.

Contraindications: when an infusion must not be given

A product will not be used if you have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to an ingredient. Other contraindications depend on the substance, dose and infusion solution. They may include an existing excess of the relevant vitamin or an iron storage disorder when iron products are involved. Severe kidney impairment, advanced heart failure, decompensated liver disease or unexplained acute symptoms require medical assessment before a planned infusion; treatment may be ruled out.

Special precautions and consultation

Please tell us about kidney impairment, diabetes, pregnancy or breastfeeding, gout or raised uric acid levels, and all medicines, particularly any ongoing chemotherapy. We assess possible interactions and decide whether treatment is suitable and needs adjustment. In diabetes, we also consider the infusion solution and possible effects of vitamin C on blood glucose measurements.

Vitamin C: G6PD deficiency and kidney stones

Before high-dose vitamin C treatment, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD deficiency) must be ruled out because dangerous breakdown of red blood cells can occur. This precaution applies before high-dose treatment, not only above 7.5 g. A history of kidney stones, particularly oxalate stones, a tendency to form oxalate, or iron storage disorders must also be assessed beforehand. Oxalate stones and iron storage disorders are explicit contraindications for certain vitamin C products.
