Investigating the pattern and triggers of trembling.
Tremor is a symptom with several possible causes. It may occur with tension, medicines, an overactive thyroid, essential tremor or neurological illness. It does not automatically mean Parkinson's disease.
Assessment considers whether trembling occurs at rest, while holding a position or during movement, and which body areas are affected. Stress, coffee, medicines and family history may provide clues.
We discuss how symptoms developed and assess movement, strength and other neurological signs. Blood tests are used where relevant. Neurology assessment may be needed if the cause remains unclear or other abnormalities appear.
Treatment depends on the trigger and effect on daily life. Treatable causes and possible medication side effects are considered first. Specific medicines or practical aids may help in some cases. Sudden new tremor with weakness, speech problems or severe changes in consciousness requires immediate help.
We discuss which changes to watch for in everyday life and when another check-up would be useful. Your questions, personal goals and how well you tolerate treatment inform further decisions. Where needed, we coordinate with your treating specialists.
Bring your health insurance card, recent medical letters, existing test results and a medication list. Note any changes in your symptoms and your main questions. Do not change existing treatment yourself; we will discuss together whether adjustments are needed.
