The blood tests selected depend on the medical question. After sampling, we discuss the results and possible next steps. We clarify any special preparation when arranging the appointment.
What blood tests can tell us
Blood tests can provide information about changes in blood count, inflammation or the function of certain organs. Useful tests depend on your particular concern. A larger laboratory package is not automatically more informative.
How the sample is taken
Usually, a small amount of blood is taken from a vein in your arm and sent to a laboratory. The skin is disinfected beforehand, and pressure is applied afterwards. Whether you need to fast depends on the planned tests. Ask when arranging your appointment, and tell us about blood-thinning medication or a tendency to feel faint.
